Blog

This is where Megan Rush writes about food for a diet a doctor has set. Most of it is bariatric and diabetic recipes, because those are the readers who write to her most. The diverticulitis diet has its own space too, in both of its phases. She is a cook and the author of a series of cookbooks, not a doctor. Every post starts in her kitchen, not in a textbook.

Bariatric and diabetic recipes, one question at a time

Each article takes one question and answers it in full. For example: how much protein fits in a gastric sleeve portion? What does the number on a food label mean for blood sugar? When can you eat seeds again after a flare-up? The answer always comes with quantities, timings and swaps. So you can cook it tonight, without a calculator. Nothing here replaces your medical team; instead, it makes their rules easier to live with.

The rules are the ones in those books, from the Bariatric Cookbook to the Diabetic Air Fryer Cookbook. The blog is where they meet a real week of meals. First comes the shopping list. Then the batch of soups for the freezer, and then the air fryer dinner on a Tuesday night. In short, bariatric and diabetic recipes that still taste like food.

New posts arrive every week, and the older ones get a fresh look when a rule changes. Use the search box to find one dish. Otherwise, start from a topic below. Each one gathers every article on that subject, from the first week after surgery to the long run, so nothing gets lost in the archive.
